I didn't know which bus to get on the first day I switched schools from Hanao (West Yahata) to Tahara JHS (Kokuraminami or South Kokura), so I ended up taking a taxi. The driver didn't know where to go so when we finally got there I ended up paying somewhere around thirty dollars.

I still made it on time. The one thing that our supervisor always told us:
"Never, ever, ever be late."

Tahara junior high's kids were so different from Hanao's that I, almost immediately, warmed up to the place. Within a week it became my favorite school.
