Postwar Blues and Mango Pudding
Uncategorized April 11th, 2001Last Sunday I received, in a standard-sized business envelope, a letter from the Japanese Cultural Center in Los Angeles. It was your standard one-pager that said something like “..there were many applicants for the JET program.. but we regret to inform you that you were not accepted…”.
So there you have it. I didn’ t make the cut for the JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) program. It’s time to move forward.
It would be dishonest to say that I’m not bitter, or not frustrated, or that I’d like to grab a heavy chair and launch it at a glass window for maximum-dramatic effect. But a choice was made and I’m not going to Japan. It’s bittersweet (that’s how life has been lately, after all). I had back up plans and now I’m going to start working on them. And most of them involve video / editing.
I’ve already worked on 50% of my film projects website, which should be done in two weeks time. It doesn’t feature anything new in terms of video projects, but it’s a site dedicated to previous and future works that I’ll do. It’ll also have it’s own domain. Also, the blog is iffy. It’ll be moved if its not completely eradicated. Consider yourself notified.
The following Monday, after receiving the JET program rejection letter, I tried to make myself feel better by taking a short trip to the local Fry’s Electronics and picked up both Sims expansion packs (Livin’ Large and House Party). Both were under 20 bucks… I’ve prolonged the life of The Sims. One game I can sit around dabbling in for hours. I won’t be bored for awhile.
E3 is coming. I’ll be there.
Our DSL provider at the college apartment went bankrupt and dissolved. Thus, Mike and I cannot access the internet freely once we are at home. So I’m blogging from work right now.
