St. Boniface Church: Anaheim, California
I don't remember how long it had been since I last saw Shaun, but I know it was before he graduated college. So in June, I saw him for the first time since. And he was getting married.
I wasn't a stranger to weddings. But this was one of the more recent ones where it was not a relative or elder getting married. This was Shaun and Thy's. I remember Shaun as "the guy who introduced me to the music of Moby and Orbital" and so on and so forth. He met Thy during his computer science time in Irvine.
Seeing one of your peers getting married is a great feeling. To see that person with the love of their life, grand.
This brought forth observations about my own life. I went to the wedding with another college friend of mine and we discussed it much later in the evening.
I'm twenty-five, I told my him. I don't feel like I'm particularly missing out on something, but seeing someone around the same age getting married does make me wonder. What will become of me? Will I have this opportunity someday? Will I be as fortunate to meet the love of my life? In time?
My mid-twenties crisis has been around for a bit now, and I completely acknowledge its existence. Instead of manifesting fear, then, I enjoyed the wedding day for what it was and found my own insights entertaining instead. The "hmmm" factor was high that night, but only because of perspective.
The wedding was also a reunion of sorts. My friend and I hadn't metup in awhile and both of us met another suite-mate from the dorms, Matt. It was good to catch up. For the dinner reception, it was a gathering of acquaintances. I couldn't ask for more and was happy to be in the company of old friends.
June is that wedding season, it seems. I was happy to attend Shaun and Thy's. Congratulations, you two.
